The Wehlen Sundial Growth

At this time some 5.5 hectares of S.A. Pruem’s total holdings lie in the famous Wehlen Sundial or "Sonnenuhr" growth. As such, S.A. Pruem belongs among the largest owners in Wehlen. Since 1999, more "bricks" or parcels were added towards building the Winery’s holdings.

This included the leasing of additional former parcels belonging to the earlier S.A. Pruem Family Winery. This included one from the Peter Pruem Winery, and from M. Engelberting (abrother of "founding father" Sebastian Aloys Pruem.) Thus the growing area was expanded upon with these acquisitions of the best possible vineyards. The incorporation of the growing areas in Wehlen, the Sonnenuhr, and the Domprobst growth in neighboring Graach village from the Christofel-Pruem Winery contributed also to the consolidation of other former Pruem vineyards.

Another acquisition was that of yet another excellent Sonnenuhr section from the Zacharias Bergweiler Winery. It had previously, been leased temporarily to the Deinhard Winery. With that, our plans for future growth were all achieved at that time. Or, so we thought. However, in 2001, we once again grew when we acquired more than 2.5 hectares in Bernkastel and Graach from top growths belonging to the Graach parish church’s Winery holdings.

All of these gains were first class, steep-incline parcels in Bernkastler Graben, Lay and Bratenhoefischen.
