| Coming to visit us by car? Here’s how you get here!
The S.A. Pruem Winery in Wehlen on the Mosel, just east of Bernkastel-Kues, lies in the middle of one of Germany’s-- and Europe’s-- most beautiful valleys. Just getting here is half the fun – breath-taking scenery, lovely villages, luxuriant gardens and the vineyards themselves, many perched at dazzling heights. [ road map ] |
From Cologne or Coblenz:
Take the Autobahn 1 or 61 from Cologne until it intersects with the A48 heading west towards Trier/Luxemburg. Exit at Wittlich and follow signs to Bernkastel through the small towns of Wengerohr and Platten, descending into the Mosel Valley. A traffic circle is at the bottom of the steep incline. Follow the first right exit to Wehlen, about four kms. In Wehlen take a left turn descending further right down to the riverfront. Take a right turn. Proceed slowly underneath the Wehlen Mosel Bridge, and about 200 meters further, on, on the right hand side is the entrance to the Winery.
From Luxemburg or Trier:
If traveling via Autobahn A48 either from Luxemburg, Trier, Saarbruecken, Kaiserslautern, head east about 22 kms. Exit A48 at the Salmtal Exit. Follow signs to the Mosel Valley and Bernkastel. (However, you may prefer taking the highly scenic Mosel Valley route which leads through many small villages and past steeply-inclined vineyards leading right down to the River beginning in Schweich, heading east (downstream) towards Bernkastel.) In Bernkastel follow signs to Wehlen remaining on the north side of the Mosel past the Bernkastel-Kues Bridge and continuing about 4 kms east until Wehlen. Take a right turn and descend towards the Wehlen Bridge bearing LEFT just before entering the bridge. This access street brings you to the Uferallee on the River. Take a right turn and about 200 meters along is the winery. If proceeding on the south shore of the Mosel from Bernkastel, continue along the river past the village of Graach, and driving slowly under the Wehlen Bridge, take a sharp right turn, enter the bridge, cross the river, and take a very hard right turn just as you leave the bridge. This is the access street to Uferallee. Underneath the bridge take a right, proceed 200 meters and the Winery is on the right.
From Mainz:
Take Route 60 or 61 north towards Bingen exiting at Rheinboellen, about 50 kms from Mainz. Descend from the autobahn heading west taking the Bundesstrasse 50 which is a partial express street leading towards Simmern and Hahn Airport. About 10 kms past Hahn, Route 50 ends in a “T.” Take the left and proceed about 10 more kms until signs indicate Bernkastel-Kues. Take the right and proceed very cautiously. Driving down through a steep ravine with a dozen hair-pins turns –surely one of the most beautiful roads in Germany – you will enter a tunnel leading your directly to the Mosel. Take a right turn and drive through Bernkastel-Kues, past the bridge, through the village of Graach. Immediately after going under the the Wehlen Bridge, take a tight right turn. See instructions of the preceding paragraph.
They will vary depending on whether you opt for the rural roads or the faster main thoroughfares or the autobahn. Following the meandering Mosel may delay you further. The route is so beautiful and charming that you may not be able to resist stopping continuously in order to savor its charms!
