Fine Wine Review Comments:
This is one of the most successful collections of wines that I have found at this often-disappointing estate. The Kabt trocken shows a lovely slate Riesling nose, good acidity, and lime flavors from the slate. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 03 03. The halbtrocken has a stony, slate nose. In the mouth, the wine has firmness and roundness with good ripeness to its stony flavors.
Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 11 03. The two foregoing wines were made with inoculated yeasts, the remaining wines with indigenous yeasts. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabt has inexpressive lime aromas, followed in the mouth by lime fruit, but there is some coarseness here. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 9-03. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Sptl shows delicate white pepper aromas, followed on the palate by some sweetness with vanilla and lime that are typical of Sonnenuhrs, and a nice balancing acidity. Last digits of A.P. Nr.: 08 03.
The Graacher Domprobst Eiswein has a honeyed, botrytis-infected nose that would be proper for a Beerenauslese. In the mouth, the wine is more like an Eiswein with essence-of-Riesling slate lime flavors and golden overtones that are typical of Domprobst wines. The Graacher Domprobst Trockenbeerenauslese has a heavily-botrytised nose and mouth of brown sugar and orange rind and richness on the palate typical of a TBA. An outstanding effort.
